Illustrator: Beatrice Häsler


  • She studied the basics at the Zurich Textile School and at the Bern University of Arts.
  • Thereafter, she learned Pharmacy at the University of Bern and later she supplemented her artistic activity by working as a pharmacist.
  • Then she emigrated to NY and got the BFA at Parsons School of Design.  
  • Subsequently, she held a position for several years as an illustrator at the Bronx Zoo in NY.
  •  She returned to Switzerland and worked as a free lancer as well as in the Atelier am Wasser.
  • ​During this time she created a large collection of plant illustrations dealing ​e.g. with 'museal objects' and 'phyogenetic trees' of flowering plants.
  • ​For some time now she is designing and making embroidery art work

  • Studied Medicine at the University of Zurich UZH and switched as a cand. med. to Plant Biology UZH, where he got his PhD with a thesis on heterochromatin and DNA replication (Exptl Cell Res 64/2 (1971) 323-330).
  • After a Molecular Biology training in Charles Weissmann's Lab he did his first steps as a Plant Physiologist at UZH studying the role of caffeine in plant species producing it.
  • He made his post-doc at USC in LA, where he investigated the Cell Physiology in Wilms' tumor (Proff. John W Beierle and Sam Allerton). Then, he returned to the Plant Biology at UZH to become Assistant, Docent, and finally Associate Professor of Plant Physiology. A list of his scientific publications is here
