Studied Medicine at the University of Zurich UZH and switched as a cand. med. to Plant Biology UZH, where he got his PhD with a thesis on heterochromatin and DNA replication (Exptl Cell Res 64/2 (1971) 323-330).
After a Molecular Biology training in Charles Weissmann's Lab he did his first steps as a Plant Physiologist at UZH studying the role of caffeine in plant species producing it.
He made his post-doc at USC in LA, where he investigated the Cell Physiology in Wilms' tumor (Proff. John W Beierle and Sam Allerton). Then, he returned to the Plant Biology at UZH to become Assistant, Docent, and finally Associate Professor of Plant Physiology. A list of his scientific publications is here
Since his retirement he acts as a book author inspired and artistically assisted by his wife Beatrice Häsler

She studied the basics at the Zurich Textile School and at the Bern University of Arts.
Thereafter, she learned Pharmacy at the University of Bern and later she supplemented her artistic activity by working as a pharmacist.
